The Telangana Medical Council has intensified its crackdown on fake doctors, uncovering 10 unqualified practitioners and two Ayurvedic doctors illegally practicing allopathy during recent inspections across the state. The council has announced its intent to file FIRs against them under relevant sections of the NMC Act.
During the inspections, it was found that the two Ayurvedic doctors were prescribing allopathic medications, including high-dose antibiotics and steroids, to pregnant women and conducting diagnostic tests on them. Additionally, the 10 fake doctors, posing as Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) and Primary Medical Care Practitioners (PMPs), were operating unauthorized clinics without approval from the district medical officer. These clinics were administering high-dose antibiotics, steroids, painkiller injections, and saline infusions to unsuspecting patients.
As reported by medicaldialogues, the raids were conducted in areas such as Champapet, Karmanghat, Saidabad, Dichpally, Manchippa, and Indalwai in Nizamabad district, following numerous complaints. Based on the tip-offs, the council formed two inspection teams. One team, led by Vice Chairman Dr. Srinivas with members Dr. Imran Ali and co-opted member Dr. Rajiv, inspected Champapet, Karmanghat, and Saidabad. The second team, headed by Chairman Dr. Mahesh Kumar with members Dr. Sunny Davis and Dr. Sirish, covered Dichpally, Manchippa, and Indalwai.
Dr. Mahesh Kumar confirmed that FIRs would be filed against the accused under Sections 34 and 54 of the NMC Act, stating, “The NMC Act prohibits anyone from practicing modern medicine without an MBBS degree and authorization from the Telangana Medical Council. Practitioners posing as RMPs and PMPs without proper qualifications are fake doctors. Their unqualified medical treatments are causing severe health problems, making them liable for imprisonment of up to one year and a fine of Rs. 5 lakh.”
Dr. Imran Ali added, “We will file complaints with the District Health and Medical Officer. So far, 350 FIRs have been registered against PMPs across Telangana. They face punishments including one year of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5 lakh.”
