AIIMS-Bhubaneswar to introduce liver transplantation services soon. In preparation, the institute opened a dedicated liver transplantation clinic on Saturday within its gastroenterology department.
Clinic Timings and Screening Process
The clinic will operate every Tuesday from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the Gastro OPD complex. Patients requiring liver transplants will be screened, and a waiting list will be prepared accordingly.
Essential Step for Advanced Liver Care
Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that as the institute moves closer to launching liver transplantation procedures, a specialized clinic for evaluating patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) was necessary.
Expanding Organ Transplantation Services
AIIMS-Bhubaneswar has already begun kidney transplantation, which has been running successfully. “We have a team of skilled surgeons and trained support staff. Once liver transplantation begins, it will fill a critical gap in liver care and bring hope to patients who currently travel out of state and spend lakhs on treatment,” Dr. Biswas added.
Multidisciplinary Approach for Better Care
As reported by msn.com, the liver transplantation clinic will be collaboratively managed. The departments involved include surgical gastroenterology, gastroenterology, pediatric surgery, and pediatrics. It will serve patients from Odisha and neighboring states, providing comprehensive assessment and treatment.
