AIMS Hospital Launches “Shakti”: Empowering Women, Inspiring Hope in the Fight Against Breast Cancer

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, AIMS Hospital has proudly launched “Shakti,” a support group dedicated to empowering women affected by breast cancer. This initiative offers crucial support to patients and their families, providing a space where current patients can find strength and inspiration from survivors who have overcome the disease.

As per the press release, the launch event saw the participation of around 150 cancer patients, survivors, families, and medical professionals. Special guests included social activist Mrs. Suhasi Ravindra Chavan, who served as the Guest of Honor, along with AIMS Hospital’s expert oncology team: Dr. Supriya Bambarkar, Director of the Oncology Department and Consultant Oncosurgeon; Dr. Neemesh Lodh, Breast Surgical Oncologist; Dr. Rakesh Patil, Medical & Hemato Oncologist; and Dr. Sagar Gayakwad, Consultant Radiation Oncologist.

“Shakti,” which means “power,” focuses on educating women about breast health, promoting self-exams, understanding diagnoses, and making informed treatment decisions. With breast cancer cases on the rise in India, raising awareness is critical. Many women often overlook early warning signs, such as lumps or unusual changes, leading to delayed diagnoses and more severe outcomes.

As one of the most common cancers affecting women in India, breast cancer can have serious consequences when early symptoms go unnoticed. “Shakti” aims to empower women by providing emotional support, resources, and peer connections. Through workshops, counseling, and shared experiences, the group fosters a community of resilience and hope. Dr. Neemesh Lodh emphasized the importance of proper care and support in helping many women return to normal lives after treatment, highlighting the collective strength of those facing the battle against breast cancer.

“At AIMS Hospital, we believe that care extends beyond medical treatment,” says Dr. Rakesh Patil. “With ‘Shakti,’ we are committed to offering holistic support that addresses the emotional and social needs of breast cancer patients. We encourage women to perform regular self-exams and schedule mammograms after the age of 35 for early detection. Our goal is to ensure that no woman faces this journey alone. Breast cancer is treatable when caught early, so never lose hope.”
