Assam Medical College (AMC) in Dibrugarh, the oldest medical institution in Northeast India, is set to introduce robotic surgery, as announced by Superintendent Dr. Dhrubajyoti Bhuyan during the college’s 78th Foundation Day celebration. Established in 1947 and formerly known as Berry White Medical School, AMC was founded by Dr. John Berry White in 1900.

“AMC has long been a leader in healthcare, research, and innovation. The introduction of robotic surgery represents a transformative step forward that will enhance surgical quality and significantly reduce patient recovery times. This state-of-the-art facility will further elevate our healthcare delivery capabilities,” stated Dr. Bhuyan.

As reported by economictimes, he also highlighted AMC’s current initiatives, including dedicated helplines for suicide prevention and support for medication-related issues.

The Foundation Day events began with Principal Dr. Sanjeeb Kakati raising the college flag and reflecting on AMC’s journey to becoming a center of excellence, emphasizing the challenges overcome through resilience. An open session in the Dr. John Berry White Auditorium featured faculty, students, and staff, where Dr. Kakati presented the annual report.
