Ankura Hospital and IFCAI Conduct Comprehensive Infection Control Workshop for Healthcare Professionals

successfully organized an intensive workshop on “Infection Prevention and Control” for nurses and healthcare professionals. The event featured a combination of hands-on training sessions, live demonstrations, and expert-led lectures, equipping 115 medical staff with the latest advancements in infection control practices.

With healthcare-associated infections posing a significant challenge, the workshop underscored the importance of timely infection control measures. A highly interactive demo session on Central Line Insertion and Maintenance, conducted by Dr. Vishrut Joshi, Consultant Pediatric Intensivist, and Dr. Siddharth Madabhushi, Consultant Neonatologist and Pediatrician, provided participants with practical experience in infection prevention techniques. Additional sessions covered CSSD recall mock drills, infection control in ICUs and operating theaters, the role of nurses in infection control, diagnostic stewardship, and occupational safety.

Dr. Ranga Reddy Burri, President of IFCAI and Chief Guest of the event, highlighted the global and Indian challenges of infection control, emphasizing the burden of healthcare-associated infections on patient morbidity, hospital stays, and financial resources.

The Nursing team, led by Mr. Shijo NS, Ms. Chithra ICN, and Ms. Leena from Ankura Hospital, stressed the crucial role of nurses in infection control, stating, “Nurses are the backbone of infection control in any hospital. Their vigilance, training, and adherence to protocols are essential in preventing infections.”

Addressing the impact on mothers and newborns, Maj (Dr.) Jyothsna Venkatesh, Infection Control Consultant, Ankura Hospital, Pune, emphasized that healthcare-associated infections could lead to surgical site infections, postpartum sepsis, and neonatal infections, prolonging recovery and increasing complications. She advocated for strict hand hygiene and a bundle care approach to significantly reduce infection rates.
