Another milestone achievement for Meitra Hospital by successfully performing Bone Marrow Transplant for a 56-year-old lady

Meitra Hospital, Calicut, crosses yet another milestone when its team of HaematoOncology & Bone Marrow Transplant headed by Dr. Ragesh R. Nair performed a successful Bone Marrow Transplant for a 56-year-old lady. The patient was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma three months ago. After undergoing Chemotherapy, her symptoms got subsided and she underwent Bone Marrow Transplant. The transplant was done in a Hepa-filtered and positive pressure BMT suites room while maintaining stringent infection control protocols, thereby accelerating the recovery rate of the patient.

“BMT is a very important therapy in the management of patients with blood cancers like Myeloma, Leukemia, Lymphoma & certain non-cancerous blood disorders. The science and art of BMT has evolved to such an extent that even older patients can now be taken up for BMT successfully. This transplant in the 56-year-oldpatient had certain peculiar manifestation known as Auto Graft versus host disease during the course, which was successfully dealt with”, said Dr. Ragesh R. Dr. Ragesh R. Nair who performed the transplantwas trained from All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS-Delhi). He has the experience of performing exceptionally complex transplants of patients from Kerala to Northern India to across the globe from Iraq, Oman, Saudi Arabia, various African nations, UK, Netherland, Switzerland, USA, Canada and the CSR Countries.
