In a groundbreaking collaboration, The Apollo University, Apollo Hospitals, and the University of Leicester, UK, have launched the Centre for Digital Health and Precision Medicine (CDHPM) at The Apollo University campus in Chittoor. This cutting-edge research hub aims to revolutionize patient care through advanced digital health and personalized medicine solutions.

The CDHPM, also based at the BHF Cardiovascular Research Centre at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, was inaugurated by Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Chancellor of The Apollo University and Founding Chairman of Apollo Hospitals. The centre brings together world-class expertise to tackle global healthcare challenges, particularly in cardiovascular diseases, acute medicine, and multimorbidity associated with aging populations.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Reddy said, “The CDHPM embodies our vision to transform healthcare delivery by advancing disease prediction, prevention, and management. This partnership will profoundly impact global healthcare and shape the future of personalized medicine. Launching this centre in my birthplace in collaboration with the University of Leicester is particularly meaningful.”

Professor Sir Nilesh J. Samani, Professor of Cardiology at the University of Leicester, and Dr. Sujoy Kar, Chief Medical Information Officer at Apollo Hospitals, will co-direct the centre. Their focus will be on leveraging advanced analytics and routinely collected healthcare data to develop innovative solutions.

Revolutionizing Healthcare
 Dr. Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor of The Apollo University, highlighted the transformative potential of the centre. “By integrating cutting-edge research and technology, the CDHPM sets a global benchmark for precision medicine. This collaboration enhances our academic and research capabilities, paving the way for groundbreaking healthcare solutions.”

Professor Nishan Canagarajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Leicester, added, “This partnership enables both institutions to address critical healthcare challenges globally. Together, we can build the healthcare of the future and develop cutting-edge degree programmes to meet the growing demand for healthcare expertise in India and the UK.”

Academic Innovations and Programmes
 The partnership will launch three collaborative undergraduate programmes in September 2025, focusing on Artificial Intelligence, Electronics, Electrical and Information Engineering, and Business Administration. Students will complete two years at The Apollo University in India before progressing to the University of Leicester for the final year.

Additionally, four healthcare-focused Master’s programmes will be introduced at the University of Leicester, along with specialized medical training pathways developed in collaboration with NHS England, the BAPIO Training Academy (BTA), and Apollo Hospitals.

Strengthening India-UK Ties
 As per the press release, this initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June 2023 to promote international cooperation in education and research, particularly in healthcare and data science. The collaboration underscores the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing healthcare innovation and delivering impactful solutions globally.
