Army Hospital (Research & Referral) has inaugurated a pioneering skin bank facility, the first of its kind within the Armed Forces Medical Services. This significant initiative aims to transform the treatment of severe burn injuries and other skin-related conditions for service members and their families.
The new skin bank will act as a centralized hub for the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of skin grafts, providing an essential resource for military medical centers nationwide. This facility ensures that Armed Forces personnel and their families have access to cutting-edge skin replacement therapies.
Staffed by a team of highly-trained medical professionals, including plastic surgeons, tissue engineers, and specialized technicians, the skin bank will adhere to the highest standards of quality control and safety. This will guarantee the integrity and reliability of the skin grafts provided.
As reported by Medical Buyer, Lieutenant General Arindam Chatterjee, Director General of Medical Services (Army) and Colonel Commandant, described the launch as a testament to the Armed Forces’ unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of its members. He emphasized that the facility will enhance the quality of care and improve support for those affected by serious injuries.
Commandant of Army Hospital (R&R), Lieutenant General Ajith Nilakantan, highlighted the benefits of having a dedicated resource for skin tissue. He noted that this will allow for the provision of the most effective and personalized treatments, ultimately improving patients’ chances of recovery and rehabilitation.
