The National Health Mission (NHM) in Arunachal Pradesh has joined hands with Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Wadhwani AI) to roll out an ambitious initiative aimed at improving healthcare service delivery across the northeastern state.

AI Integration Begins in Five Key Districts

In the first phase, the project will implement AI-driven solutions in five selected districts—Papumpare, Longding, Tirap, Namsai, and West Siang. These districts were chosen to pilot the use of artificial intelligence in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and processes.

Focus Areas: Early Diagnosis and Rural Accessibility

As reported by theprint, the initiative will focus on early disease detection, timely referrals, data-driven management, and improved access to care, particularly in rural and remote areas. Officials emphasized that AI has the potential to bridge healthcare gaps and enable faster, more accurate clinical decisions.

Advanced AI Tools to Target Tuberculosis

To combat tuberculosis (TB), the program will deploy three key AI solutions:

  • Vulnerability Mapping for TB (VMTB): Identifies individuals and regions at higher risk.
  • Prediction of Adverse TB Outcome (PATO): Forecasts potential complications in TB patients for early intervention.
  • Cough Against TB (CAT): Assists in early screening through AI-powered cough analysis.

These tools aim to enhance TB screening, diagnosis, and management across the selected districts.

NHM and Wadhwani AI Leaders Highlight Impact

Speaking at the launch event on Thursday, Arunachal Pradesh NHM Mission Director Marge Sora underlined the critical role of AI technologies in strengthening healthcare delivery. He stated, “Adopting AI-driven healthcare solutions is a vital step toward ensuring better outcomes and accessibility for our people.”

Neeraj Agarwal, Chief Program Officer of Wadhwani AI, echoed this sentiment, saying, “Predictive insights and diagnostic tools powered by AI can truly revolutionize healthcare in underserved areas, ensuring timely and efficient care for those who need it most.”

A Path Toward Smarter, Inclusive Healthcare

With this strategic collaboration, Arunachal Pradesh takes a pioneering step in leveraging technology to solve persistent healthcare challenges. The state is integrating artificial intelligence into public health systems. This aims to build a more resilient, responsive, and inclusive healthcare ecosystem for its people.
