Dr. Soumya Swaminathan Takes on Role as Principal Advisor for National TB Elimination Programme

Dr. Soumya Swaminathan named as principal advisor for the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme of the Union health ministry, serving on a pro-bono basis. Swaminathan, who previously held positions as the chief scientist at the World Health Organization and director general of the Indian Council of Medical Research, brings extensive experience to this role.

As principal advisor, she will offer technical guidance to help achieve the programme’s objectives, provide policy recommendations, suggest necessary adjustments for better results, and advise on research strategies, according to a statement from the health ministry.

As reported by devdiscourse.com, additionally, Swaminathan will aid in the creation of expert groups comprised of leading global experts and support the ministry, state officials, and development partners in evaluating the programme’s impact.
