Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road performed Karnataka’s first Edwards Sapien 3 Ultra Valve Replacement surgery. The procedure successfully restored mobility for a 75-year-old patient from Mizoram. Under the supervision of Dr. Srinivas Prasad BV, Senior Consultant in Interventional Cardiology, the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) was completed in just 45 minutes.

The patient, Mr. Vanlalzaunga, diagnosed with Aortic Valve Stenosis in 2011, had been wheelchair-bound due to the progression of his condition. After consulting several hospitals without finding a lasting solution, his family sought treatment at Fortis Hospital. Dr. Srinivas Prasad recommended the minimally invasive TAVR procedure, utilizing the advanced Edwards Sapien 3 Ultra valve.

Dr. Srinivas Prasad highlighted that traditional heart valve replacement surgeries involve longer recovery periods and higher risks of complications. In contrast, the TAVR procedure offers quicker recovery and reduced risks. The use of the Edwards Sapien 3 Ultra valve, a first in Karnataka, provided improved valve sealing and minimized complications, allowing the patient to walk independently within hours after surgery.
