Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road Completes Complex Robotic Kidney Transplants

Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road successfully performed complex Robotic Kidney Transplant Surgeries for end-stage kidney disease. The procedures were led by Dr. Mohan Keshavamurthy, Senior Director of Urology, Uro-Oncology, and Robotic Surgery, and Dr. Manjunath S, Consultant-Nephrology, at Fortis Hospital Bannerghatta Road.

In the first case, 11-year-old Ahmed, diagnosed with Steroid Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome (SRNS) and stage five chronic kidney disease, received a kidney from his aunt. The surgery, performed using Robot-assisted Laparoscopic Live Related Renal Transplant, marked a successful procedure, offering hope for Ahmed’s health.

The second case involved Chetan, a 34-year-old software engineer with a solitary kidney and End Stage Kidney Disease. Despite concerns related to age, Chetan’s father volunteered to donate his kidney, leading to a successful surgery and Chetan’s discharge within five days.

Dr. Mohan Keshavamurthy, Senior Director – Urology, highlighted the significance of robotic surgery in ensuring precision and minimizing risks, leading to faster recovery times. Dr. Manjunath S, Consultant – Nephrology, emphasized the multidisciplinary approach and innovative techniques utilized in managing the patients’ unique challenges.
