The number of suspected and confirmed Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in the Pune region has reached 197, with five new patients identified, health department officials announced on Tuesday. Among these, officials detected two fresh cases, while they identified three from previous days.

Breakdown of Confirmed GBS Cases

Health officials confirmed that doctors have diagnosed 172 out of the 197 cases with GBS. The distribution of cases includes:

  • 40 patients from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas
  • 92 from newly added villages in PMC
  • 29 from Pimpri Chinchwad civic limits
  • 28 from Pune Rural
  • 8 from other districts

Current Patient Status

Of the total cases, 104 patients have been discharged, while 50 remain in the ICU and 20 are on ventilator support. The number of suspected GBS-related deaths remains at seven, according to the health department’s latest update.

GBS is a rare neurological disorder in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nerves. This leads to muscle weakness, loss of sensation in the arms and legs, and difficulties with swallowing or breathing. In severe cases, it can cause paralysis and require intensive medical care.
