Healthcare for All: Key Initiatives Highlighted by President Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu emphasized on Friday that providing affordable and quality healthcare for all remains the government’s top priority. Addressing a joint session of Parliament at the start of the Budget session, she highlighted ongoing efforts to improve hospital facilities and treatment options, leading to reduced healthcare expenses for ordinary families.

Strengthening Vaccination and Healthcare Tracking

To enhance vaccination tracking for pregnant women and children, the government launched the U-WIN portal. So far, it has recorded around 30 crore vaccine doses, ensuring more effective immunization efforts.

Improving Maternal and Infant Health

Murmu noted significant progress in reducing maternal and infant mortality rates. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, six crore senior citizens aged 70 and above will receive health insurance with coverage of Rs 5 lakh per year.

Expanding Healthcare Infrastructure

To bring healthcare services closer to citizens, the government has established 1,75,000 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the country. Acknowledging the rising number of cancer patients and costly treatments, she announced the exemption of several cancer drugs from customs duties to make them more affordable.

Major Initiatives in Disease Control

Nearly nine crore women have been screened for cervical cancer. The government’s efforts in combating encephalitis have reduced the disease’s mortality rate to six percent. Additionally, the National TB Eradication Programme has contributed to a decline in TB cases, with Murmu urging citizens and MPs to support a TB-free India.

Boosting Medical Education and Employment

As reported by economictimes, the government plans to create 75,000 new seats in medical colleges over the next five years. It is also developing bulk drug and medical device parks to enhance health infrastructure and manufacturing, generating employment opportunities.

Expanding Telemedicine Services

Telemedicine has benefited citizens immensely, with over 30 crore e-teleconsultations improving healthcare access nationwide. The government continues to advance medical facilities and ensure that quality healthcare remains accessible and affordable for all.
