The Hinduja Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dr. Mane Medical Foundation & Research Centre, an NGO based in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. This collaboration marks the launch of a free, comprehensive cancer screening and awareness programme in Shirdi and surrounding districts.

Aiming to Screen 10,000 Ultra-Poor Women by 2025

As reported by Express Healthcare, the initiative targets early detection and treatment of cervical and breast cancer among underserved women. By December 2025, the programme aims to screen 10,000 ultra-poor women—prioritising those who lack access to basic healthcare. The first screening camp took place on June 8 in Rahuri, around 60 km from Shirdi, where nearly 350 women were examined.

Promoting Awareness and a Culture of Prevention

Beyond screening, the programme is designed to educate and empower women. It seeks to build a culture of preventive care, addressing longstanding financial and geographical barriers that hinder timely diagnosis in marginalised communities.

Comprehensive Screenings and Free Treatment

Dr. Mane Medical Foundation is leading the on-ground implementation, supported by grassroots outreach. All participants receive a Pap Smear and Clinical Breast Examination (CBE). When necessary, they also undergo haemoglobin, blood sugar, and cholesterol tests. Dr. Mane’s Charitable Cancer Hospital in Rahuri, Shirdi will offer free treatment to women with positive findings.

Building Community Health Capacity

To ensure long-term impact, the programme includes training for community health workers. This component aims to strengthen local healthcare systems and promote sustainable health practices in the region.

Expanding to High-Risk Regions

Backed by Reliance Life Insurance, the initiative is currently active in Shirdi and will soon expand to other high-risk areas, including Osmanabad and Ahilyanagar districts. With focused efforts and community collaboration, the programme aspires to transform cancer care access in rural Maharashtra.
