The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India’s premier industrial research organization, has developed indigenous technology to produce paracetamol, a widely used pain reliever and fever reducer. This innovation aims to make India self-reliant in paracetamol manufacturing by next year, reducing dependence on imported ingredients.
Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, CSIR’s first woman Director General, confirmed that the new technology is both cost-effective and efficient. Karnataka-based Satya Deeptha Pharmaceuticals Ltd will utilize this breakthrough to produce affordable paracetamol and other essential medications domestically.
Currently, India imports the key raw materials for paracetamol from various countries. The CSIR initiative not only addresses this dependency but also aligns with the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) vision. This advancement is expected to bolster India’s pharmaceutical industry by ensuring consistent supply, reducing costs, and enhancing competitiveness in global markets.
As reported by newindianexpress, Dr. Kalaiselvi emphasized that the innovation is part of CSIR’s broader efforts to transform India’s industrial-innovation landscape, enabling the country to scale up its manufacturing capabilities across multiple sectors.
