India’s First Overseas Jan Aushadi Kendra Opens in Mauritius

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar inaugurated India’s first overseas Jan Aushadi Kendra in Mauritius, showcasing the strong bilateral cooperation between the two nations, especially in the health sector. During his two-day visit from June 16 to 17, Jaishankar, alongside Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, launched the Jan Aushadi Kendra, emphasizing the partnership’s role in offering affordable generic medications.

He expressed satisfaction at fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise and highlighted the importance of the India-Mauritius health alliance in delivering cost-effective, Indian-made medicines to improve public healthcare.

Additionally, Jaishankar and Prime Minister Jugnauth inaugurated a modern medical facility in Grand Bois, funded by an Indian grant. Describing the Mediclinic as the ‘latest symbol of our friendship,’ Jaishankar pointed out that it will serve over 16,000 residents, representing the people-focused development partnership between India and Mauritius.

He emphasized the increased emphasis on health following the COVID-19 pandemic and the government’s responsibility to provide healthcare services. He also noted the operational status of the Jan Aushadi Kendra and the Mauritius government’s intention to procure essential affordable medicines from India.
