Navi Mumbai, India – A 15-year-old girl from Kenya who was suffering from a rare and debilitating autoimmune disorder has made a remarkable recovery following advanced cell therapy at a hospital in India. The treatment, conducted at StemRx Hospital & Research Centre in Navi Mumbai, was led by Dr. Pradeep Mahajan, a pioneer in regenerative medicine.

Shannon, a previously active teenager, was diagnosed with polymyositis, a rare autoimmune disease characterized by severe muscle inflammation and progressive weakness. Her condition left her unable to walk, talk, or carry out basic daily tasks, prompting her family to seek urgent medical intervention abroad after local and regional treatments failed to provide relief.

Condition Rapidly Deteriorated

Shannon’s symptoms began suddenly, initially appearing as a mild allergic reaction. However, within weeks, her health deteriorated drastically. She experienced loss of sensation in her legs, severe pain, and increasing difficulty with movement, speech, and even eating. Despite extensive testing in Kenya, doctors were unable to provide a definitive diagnosis or effective treatment.

Her mother, Saita, pursued medical advice from specialists across Kenya and Europe but found no viable solution. Facing worsening symptoms and growing desperation, the family eventually reached out to Indian specialists for help.

Diagnosis and Breakthrough Treatment

After arriving in India in early March, Shannon was admitted to StemRx Hospital. Dr. Mahajan diagnosed her with polymyositis and immediately developed a comprehensive treatment plan using a combination of stem cell therapytargeted physiotherapy, and neuro-rehabilitation.

“Shannon’s case was particularly challenging,” Dr. Mahajan said. “She had completely lost motor function and was unable to perform even basic daily activities. Using regenerative medicine, we targeted the root cause of the disease—cellular damage in the muscles—and initiated treatment to restore function.”

The multidisciplinary therapy promoted muscle regeneration at the cellular level and gradually helped Shannon regain strength, coordination, and mobility. According to Dr. Mahajan, the treatment addressed not only her physical symptoms but also played a significant role in her emotional recovery.

A New Chapter Begins

Within weeks of beginning treatment, Shannon began showing signs of progress. She was soon able to walk with support, feed herself, and even speak with more confidence. Her emotional well-being also saw significant improvement.

“I never imagined I would walk again without help,” Shannon said. “This treatment has given me my independence, confidence, and a second chance at life. I am truly grateful to Dr. Mahajan and his team for giving me hope when I had none.”

A Mother’s Gratitude

Shannon’s mother expressed deep appreciation for the care they received in India. “Watching my daughter struggle and suffer for months was heartbreaking. We came to India not knowing what to expect, but the doctors at StemRx gave us hope. Today, my daughter is not only physically stronger but emotionally healed as well. The change is nothing short of miraculous,” she said.

Medical Hope for the Future

As per the press release, Dr. Mahajan emphasized that Shannon’s case demonstrates the immense potential of regenerative medicine and stem cell-based therapies in treating rare and complex autoimmune disorders.

“Shannon’s story is a powerful reminder that even in the most severe cases, recovery is possible,” he said. “Our approach focuses on treating the root cause rather than just managing symptoms. With advancements in regenerative medicine, we are now able to offer long-term solutions and restore quality of life.”
