Kerala currently leads the country in active Covid-19 cases, with 430 patients undergoing treatment, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The state has also reported two Covid-19-related deaths this month, raising concerns about a potential resurgence.
Sharp Surge in Infections Within a Week
As of May 19, Kerala had only 95 active Covid-19 cases. However, within just one week, the number surged nearly fivefold, signaling a rapid spread of the virus. This sharp increase has prompted health authorities to closely monitor the situation.
Most Patients Recover Without Hospitalization
Despite the spike in cases, doctors treating Covid-19 patients in Kerala report that most individuals recover without requiring hospital admission. They note that the majority of cases present with mild symptoms and can be managed at home.
Common Symptoms and High-Risk Groups
As reported by TOI, the most frequently reported symptoms include severe fatigue, nasal congestion, and a dry cough. While these symptoms are generally mild, doctors warn that elderly patients and individuals with existing health conditions remain at higher risk of complications.
Covid-19 Situation Across Other States
Following Kerala, Maharashtra has recorded the second-highest number of active cases at 209, while Delhi has 104. Gujarat currently has 83 active cases, Tamil Nadu reports 69, and Karnataka has 47. So far this month, India has seen a total of seven Covid-19 deaths, including the two reported in Kerala.
