Kerala’s medical colleges to have Emergency departments by 2024

According to Dr Mohanan Kunnummal, vice chancellor, Kerala University of Health, all the medical colleges in the state will establish emergency medicine departments by 2024.

Emergency Medicine Departments are very vital in the modern era, said Dr Kunnummal while inaugurating EMERGENZ 2022, the largest Emergency Conclave in Asia organised by Aster MIMS Kozhikode.

 He further added that those Medical Colleges that do not have the Emergency Medicine Department may not be able to serve the society properly. He stated that there is a critical shortage of skilled emergency medicine specialists in the country, and that the Kerala government will take all necessary efforts to guarantee that their services are made available here.

Dr Azad Moopen, Chairman and managing director of Aster DM Healthcare, said that EMERGENCE 2022 will be a milestone to create awareness about the latest developments in Emergency Medicine treatment among the common man as well as doctors and other health professionals.

Farhan Yasin, Regional Director, Kerala and Oman Cluster of Aster, said that Aster MIMS and Dr Venugopalan PP, chairman, EMERGENCE 2022, was instrumental in creating awareness on the need for establishing Emergency Medicine Departments in the country.

The event hosted nearly thirteen workshops, two-stream scientific sessions, keynote sessions, special streams for emergency medicine staff and paramedical staff, various scientific competitions like oral presentation, poster presentation and quiz, scenario based discussion, problem solving and decision making, CPR competition among other events.
