Medical Devices Sector in Kerala: Innovation, Investment Growth

The upcoming Invest Kerala Global Summit (IKGS2025) aims to attract substantial investments in key sectors outlined in the state’s new industrial policy, according to State Industries Minister P. Rajeeve.

Seven Key Focus Areas

The summit will emphasize seven core pillars: fostering entrepreneurship, enhancing infrastructure, preparing for Industry 4.0 with robotic manufacturing and data analytics, upgrading skills for future job markets, developing sectoral ecosystems, ensuring ESG compliance, and strengthening the ‘Kerala’ brand.

Strategic Investment Sectors

The state has identified several high-growth sectors for investment, including Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Ayurveda, Biotechnology and Life Sciences, Design, Electric Vehicles, Electronic System Design and Manufacturing, Engineering Research and Development, Nanotechnology, and the Retail Sector.

Advancing the Knowledge Economy

Kerala aims to position itself as a knowledge economy by leveraging its highly skilled workforce. The state has already become a hub for software development, and a global center for automobile software technology is being established in Thiruvananthapuram, paving the way for companies like Nissan and BMW to set up operations.

Campus Industrial Parks for Skill Development

The government plans to launch campus industrial parks to equip students with industry-relevant skills and vocational training. Initially, ten companies are set to participate, and 31 private industrial parks have already received approval.

Kerala: A Hub for Medical Devices

Kerala has become a major player in the medical devices industry, accounting for 24% of India’s total medical device turnover. The state also contributes over 12% to the global production of blood bags, highlighting its growing prominence in this sector.

Investment Milestones and Future Growth

Through the ongoing ‘Year of Entrepreneurs’ initiative, Kerala has raised ₹22,104.42 crore from domestic investments. The government is now considering long-term strategies to sustain and expand this investment model.

Commitment to Project Implementation

Minister Rajeeve assured that the state government will successfully convert all business proposals presented at the summit into actionable projects. Authorities will maintain transparency by publicly sharing progress updates on these investments.

Event Details

As reported by thehindubusinessline, the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation will host IKGS2025 on February 21 and 22 at the Lulu Bolgatty International Convention Centre. The event will bring together key stakeholders to drive economic growth in the state.
