A Powerful Joint Venture for Advanced Oncology
Everhope Oncology is a joint initiative by Narayana Health, W Health Ventures, and 2070 Health—India’s first healthcare-focused venture studio. With $10 million in seed funding, the venture plans to establish medical and surgical cancer care centers in Delhi and Mumbai, followed by expansion to 10 cities over the next three years. These state-of-the-art facilities will provide diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care, including chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and palliative care.
Rising Cancer Burden in India
Cancer is a growing health crisis in India, affecting an estimated 8 million people today. Projections indicate that one in nine Indians will develop cancer in their lifetime. However, India’s healthcare infrastructure is struggling to meet this rising demand. Over the next few years, the country will require 40,000 additional chemotherapy and surgical beds. The oncologist-to-patient ratio in India stands at 1:2,000, compared to 1:100 in the US, leading to limited consultation time, increased patient anxiety, and doctor burnout.
In addition to poor access and high treatment costs, the stigma surrounding cancer results in over 60% of cases being diagnosed late, leading to higher mortality rates.
Everhope’s Patient-Centric Approach
Everhope Oncology aims to address these challenges by establishing dedicated chemotherapy facilities and specialized surgical centers. These centers will provide:
- A modern, comfortable, and infection-free environment
- Minimal wait times and personalized care
- Holistic support, including mental health counseling, nutritional guidance, and pain management
A clinical board of experienced oncologists, in collaboration with Narayana Health, will ensure globally validated treatment protocols for best-in-class clinical outcomes. Additionally, a 24/7 patient concierge service will offer guidance and support between treatment sessions, enhancing the overall patient experience.
Redefining Cancer Care in India
As reported by pharmabiz, Viren Shetty, Vice Chairman of Narayana Health, emphasized the need to change the perception of cancer treatment. He stated, “Most people visualize cancer treatment as frail patients hooked up to tubes, navigating overcrowded hospital rooms. This fear prevents many from seeking early diagnosis and drives them toward unscientific treatments. We aim to change this perception.”
He highlighted that globally, cancer therapies—chemotherapy, surgery, palliative care, and radiation—are offered in dedicated, comfortable spaces outside hospitals. Everhope will replicate this model in India, providing high-quality oncology care in modern, crowd-free suites close to patients’ homes.
Driving Oncology Innovation in India
Dr. Pankaj Jethwani, Managing Partner at W Health Ventures, underscored Everhope’s commitment to advancing cancer care. He stated, “Our collaboration with Narayana Health marks a significant step forward in tackling India’s pressing healthcare challenges. Globally, oncology has witnessed groundbreaking innovations—from daycare chemotherapy centers to early detection diagnostics and advanced therapies like CAR-T. Through Everhope, we aim to bring these innovations to India, working with entrepreneurial oncologists who aspire to become business leaders in this space.”
With Everhope Oncology, India takes a significant step toward accessible, high-quality, and innovative cancer care, ensuring that patients receive compassionate treatment in a supportive environment.
