The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is set to boost access to affordable healthcare with the inauguration of a new Jan Aushadhi Kendra at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on October 29, 2024. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the opening, accompanied by Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilisers and Health & Family Welfare. The primary goal of this center is to provide patients at AIIMS with affordable, high-quality medicines for a range of medical conditions.
Spanning 1,724 square feet, the new Jan Aushadhi Kendra will offer over 2,047 generic medicines and 300 surgical devices, all at significantly lower prices compared to branded alternatives. The products will cater to various therapeutic needs, including cardiovascular health, cancer treatments, diabetes, infections, allergies, gastrointestinal issues, and nutrition.
As reported by economictimes, this initiative is expected to transform healthcare access for the thousands of patients who visit AIIMS daily in search of affordable medical solutions. The opening of this Jan Aushadhi Kendra represents a major step forward in the government’s commitment to making essential medicines accessible to all. Situated within a leading medical institution like AIIMS, known for its advanced treatments, the kendra will stand as a symbol of hope, advancing equitable healthcare for all citizens, irrespective of their financial means.
Currently, more than 14,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras operate across India, serving about one million people daily and reaching remote areas in 780 districts. The government plans to expand this network to 25,000 kendras over the next two years, further increasing the availability of affordable healthcare. This visionary expansion aims to empower millions of people with access to the medicines they need, contributing to a healthier and stronger India.
The launch of the Jan Aushadhi Kendra at AIIMS marks a significant milestone in PMBJP’s mission to reshape healthcare in India. This kendra is not just an addition to the existing services at AIIMS; it symbolizes hope for patients who have long struggled with the high costs of healthcare. By offering a wide range of high-quality generic medicines at a fraction of the price of branded drugs, it will serve as a vital resource for those in need. This initiative represents a transformative move toward a more inclusive healthcare system, ensuring that quality care is accessible to all, regardless of economic status.
Furthermore, it underscores the government’s commitment to health equity, ensuring that no citizen is excluded from access to essential medicines. From urban areas to remote villages, this effort reflects a vision of a fairer society where healthcare is a right, not a privilege. The Jan Aushadhi Kendra at AIIMS stands as a powerful testament to the government’s dedication to building a healthier nation, empowering people with affordable healthcare, and reshaping the future of healthcare delivery in India.
