NIPER Guwahati’s Medical Devices Testing Facility Achieves NABL Accreditation

The Medical Devices Testing and Calibration Facility (MDTF) at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati has received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). This recognition underscores the facility’s commitment to quality, precision, and reliability in medical device calibration, adhering to the international standard ISO/IEC 17025:2017. MDTF NIPER Guwahati is the first NABL-accredited medical device facility among all NIPERs.

Dr. USN Murty, Director of NIPER Guwahati, announced the accreditation at a press conference, highlighting that the facility is the only government lab in Northeast India dedicated to medical device calibration. He emphasized that regular calibration of medical electronic devices in hospitals is crucial for patient safety and reducing device failures.

As reported by Medical Buyer, the NABL accreditation covers 20 different scopes related to medical electronic equipment, including ECG machines, defibrillators, external pacemakers, and electrical safety devices under the Patient Conditioning/Maintenance and Imaging/Plotters categories. MDTF is accredited for onsite calibration, allowing it to service hospitals in remote areas without the need to transport large medical equipment to testing labs.
