President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will inaugurate the Dr. Sampat Kumar S. Shivangi Cancer Hospital in Belagavi, Karnataka, on December 30, 2024. The state-of-the-art facility, funded by Dr. Sampat Shivangi, an Indian-American physician and philanthropist, aims to provide much-needed cancer care to rural communities in the region.
Dr. Shivangi, who has made significant contributions to healthcare and education both in India and the U.S., founded the hospital through the Dr. Sampat Shivangi Foundation, which has also established schools, community halls, and healthcare facilities in underserved areas of India.
The idea for the hospital came from Dr. Shivangi’s personal experiences in rural India, where he saw families struggling to access cancer treatment. After years of planning and collaborating with local authorities, his vision is now a reality.
“This hospital is my dream come true,” Dr. Shivangi said. “I’m honored that the President of India will inaugurate this modern medical facility in my hometown.”
As reported by medicalbuyer, the Dr. Sampat Shivangi Foundation also works to promote mental health, support tribal communities, empower women, and use sports for social change. Dr. Shivangi has been a strong advocate for Indo-U.S. relations and has served on national boards for mental health initiatives.
A recipient of several prestigious awards, Dr. Shivangi continues to inspire philanthropy and community service. His vision for the hospital marks a significant step in his lifelong commitment to improving healthcare access in underserved areas.
