Two Patients in Critical Condition

Six patients diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) are receiving treatment in different hospitals across the Nashik division. Health officials confirmed that two of them are in critical condition.

Hospitalization Details

Currently, three patients are admitted to a hospital in Jalgaon, two in Dhule, and one in Nashik. Dr. Girish Thakur, dean of Government Medical College and Hospital in Jalgaon, reported that two of the patients are in the paediatric intensive care unit (ICU), while another has been moved out of the ICU but remains unstable.

In Dhule, both hospitalized patients are in serious condition and require ventilator support. One of them, a 48-year-old resident of Dhule, has been under treatment for the past 20 days. Doctors admitted the second patient, a 44-year-old engineer from Shirpur working in Ujjain, in mid-February.

TOI reported that doctors diagnosed the sixth patient, a 78-year-old farmer from Dhule, with GBS on February 27. Although he has no complications, his family initially admitted him to the ICU before transferring him to Nashik for further treatment.

Recoveries and No Fatalities Reported

Health officials confirmed that four GBS patients from Ahilyanagar district have recovered successfully and left the hospital. So far, the division has recorded no deaths.

Understanding Guillain-Barré Syndrome

GBS is a rare autoimmune disorder in which the immune system mistakenly attacks the peripheral nerves, causing demyelination and nerve damage. The condition leads to symptoms such as muscle weakness, tingling sensations in the legs, arms, or face, difficulty walking, balance issues, speech and swallowing problems, blurred vision, and abnormal heart rate or blood pressure. Medical professionals continue to monitor and treat the affected patients to ensure their recovery.
