India Sees Spike in Covid-19 Cases: Kerala and Maharashtra Lead Surge

India’s active Covid-19 caseload has climbed to 3,961, with Kerala and Maharashtra reporting the highest numbers. According to data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Sunday, June 1, the country recorded 360 new infections within 24 hours.

Kerala Reports Highest Cases, Followed by Maharashtra and Delhi

Kerala registered 64 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing its total active cases to over 1,400. Maharashtra followed with 18 new cases, while Delhi reported 61. These states remain at the forefront of the current Covid-19 uptick, according to MoHFW data.

Covid-Related Deaths in Kerala and Karnataka

Two Covid-related fatalities were also reported. In Kerala, a 24-year-old woman suffering from sepsis, hypertension, and decompensated chronic liver disease (DCLD) died after testing positive for Covid-19. In Karnataka, a 63-year-old man with pulmonary tuberculosis and squamous cell carcinoma of the buccal mucosa passed away. His Covid-19 diagnosis was incidental.

Maharashtra Records 65 New Cases

On June 1, Maharashtra reported 65 new Covid-19 cases, increasing its total since January 1 to 814. Pune led with 31 cases, followed by Mumbai (22), Thane (9), Kolhapur (2), and Nagpur (1). Currently, the state has 506 active cases and 300 recoveries, according to its health department.

Mild Cases Reported in Odisha

Odisha has seen a rise in active cases, which now stand at 12. All patients reportedly have mild symptoms and are in isolation, said Nilakantha Mishra, Director of Public Health.

Andhra Pradesh Issues Public Advisory

Andhra Pradesh’s Information and Public Relations Minister, K Parthasarathi, urged citizens to stay vigilant. He advised avoiding large crowds and maintaining social distancing at railway stations, bus stands, and airports.

West Bengal Records 82 New Infections

West Bengal added 82 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, pushing its current active caseload to 287. Six people have recovered. However, the state health department has not issued updated data.

Gurugram Witnesses Resurgence After Two and a Half Years

Gurugram reported four new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, taking the total to 23 during the current wave. Twelve cases remain active. All patients have mild symptoms and are under home isolation. Civil Surgeon Dr Alka Singh urged residents to seek testing if they experience flu-like symptoms.

Punjab Confirms Six Active Cases

Punjab currently has six active Covid-19 cases, five of which are from Ludhiana. One death has been reported. Among the cases are two asymptomatic children of the deceased. The remaining three cases involve individuals with recent travel history or contact with infected persons.

Delhi Records First Death in Current Wave

A 60-year-old woman in Delhi, who had recently undergone surgery for an intestinal obstruction, died after testing positive for Covid-19. Officials stated that the Covid-19 infection was an incidental finding.

Karnataka Issues Mask Advisory

In response to the rising numbers, the Karnataka government released an advisory on Saturday. Authorities urged people to wear masks in crowded areas, practice physical distancing, and maintain hygiene.

Centre Assures Readiness

As reported by Hindustan Times, Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, reassured citizens last week that the central government is fully equipped to manage any emerging Covid-19 situations across the country.
