Thermo Fisher Scientific introduces all-in-one AAV Production System

The Gibco CTS AAV-MAX Helper-Free AAV Production System was unveiled by Thermo Fisher Scientific as a novel all-in-one solution to assist fulfil clinical and business demands for the affordable and scalable production of adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene treatments. It is currently the only product of its kind to be produced following cGMP guidelines in order to support large-scale applications.

Scaled production is essential to accelerating the transition from research to commercialization so that gene treatments can be developed more quickly and more affordably. AAV is utilised in 82% of viral vector-based gene therapies that are currently in development. In comparison to other polyethyleneimine (PEI)-based suspension systems, the system’s ability to produce high titer AAV can help producers save up to 50% on production expenses. It can also lower the cost of plasmid DNA by 25%. It has a mammalian-based suspension system made up of a clonal HEK293 cell line and chemicals free of animal origin that enable scalable AAV synthesis at scales ranging from shaking flask to bioreactor.
