Two Monkeypox Cases Reported in Kerala

Kerala has reported two new cases of Monkeypox (Mpox), according to state Health Minister Veena George. The infected individuals, both men who recently returned from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), are currently receiving treatment at Pariyaram Medical College in Kannur.

One patient is a resident of Wayanad district, while the other is from Kannur. The Health Department is tracking their contacts and movement history, with details expected to be released soon.

In response to the cases, the Health Department has urged those who had contact with the patients to monitor themselves for symptoms and report any signs of illness. A state-level Rapid Response Team (RRT), led by the Health Minister, held a meeting to review the situation and issued instructions to set up additional isolation facilities.

As reported by economictimes,travellers arriving from abroad who develop symptoms have been advised to self-isolate and inform health authorities immediately. Awareness campaigns, especially at airports, have been intensified. Vulnerable groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, and children, have been advised to take extra precautions.

Kerala had previously reported Monkeypox cases in September following the global outbreak of the disease.
