Establishing a Cutting-Edge Research Facility

ZEISS India has joined forces with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, to drive advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) for ophthalmology. As part of this collaboration, ZEISS has set up a research facility at IISc, supported by the Spectrum Lab within the Department of Electrical Engineering. The facility aims to develop AI-based solutions to enhance diagnostic accuracy and improve patient outcomes in eye care.

Addressing the Growing Need for AI in Ophthalmology

With vision impairments becoming increasingly common worldwide, early diagnosis and effective treatment are more critical than ever. This partnership enables IISc researchers to explore AI-driven innovations that can enhance efficiency and precision in clinical ophthalmology applications. By integrating AI into eye care, the initiative seeks to transform diagnostics and treatment methodologies.

Industry-Academia Collaboration for Innovation

Ashish Modi, Head of the Centre for Application Research India (CARIn) at ZEISS India, emphasized the importance of the collaboration. He stated, “Our partnership with IISc bridges the gap between academic research and real-world applications, equipping Indian researchers with advanced resources. Long-term industry-academia collaborations are key to accelerating innovation and making cutting-edge healthcare solutions more accessible.”
