Historic Achievement in Stroke Care

Aster MIMS, Kozhikode (Calicut) has set a new benchmark in stroke treatment by becoming India’s first hospital to receive the Comprehensive Stroke Center accreditation from the American Heart Association (AHA). This prestigious recognition highlights the hospital’s commitment to providing rapid diagnosis, cutting-edge treatment, and internationally standardized stroke care.

Excellence in Stroke Care: A Result of Advanced Infrastructure and Expertise

Aster MIMS secured this accreditation following a rigorous evaluation of its stroke care program, diagnostic capabilities, treatment methodologies, and post-stroke rehabilitation. The hospital’s state-of-the-art facilities, expert medical team, and adherence to global protocols played a crucial role in achieving this milestone.

A key differentiator of Aster MIMS is its Response-Rescue-Resuscitation (R-R-R) system, which ensures seamless patient management from pre-hospital care to advanced treatment. The hospital also houses South Asia’s first Emergency Department Biplane Cathlab, enabling quick intervention and precise stroke diagnosis during critical moments.

Leadership Speaks: Commitment to Stroke Excellence

Mr. Lukman Ponmadath, Chief Operating Officer of Aster MIMS, emphasized that this accreditation reflects the hospital’s expertise in handling even the most complex stroke cases. “Our world-class stroke care services, modern treatment techniques, and rapid response systems ensure that patients receive timely and life-saving treatment without delays.” He also highlighted that multiple organizations have honored the hospital with various awards, including:

  • 9 Diamond, 2 Platinum, and 3 Gold Angels Awards by the World Stroke Organization
  • IHWS Patient-Centric Hospital in Stroke Care Award
  • Voice of Healthcare’s Stroke Innovation and Excellence Award

Rapid Emergency Response Saves Lives

Dr. Venugopalan P.P, Head of the Emergency Department, reiterated that Aster MIMS prioritizes timely intervention to improve patient recovery. “With our advanced stroke care infrastructure, we ensure that life-saving treatments like thrombolysis (clot-dissolving therapy) and thrombectomy (mechanical clot removal) are initiated without delay.”

The R-R-R system facilitates real-time communication between emergency teams and hospital staff, allowing critical assessment and interventions to begin before the patient reaches the hospital. This drastically reduces treatment delays and improves patient survival rates.

Cutting-Edge Facilities Minimize Critical Treatment Delays

Upon arrival at Aster MIMS, stroke patients are immediately transferred to the Biplane Cathlab, where advanced brain imaging and stroke management commence without delay. This ensures that key metrics like Door-to-Needle Time (DTNT) and Door-to-Groin Time (DTGT) stay minimal. As a result, recovery prospects improve, enhancing the patient’s quality of life post-stroke.
