MicrobioTx, a pioneering company in gut microbiome research, has announced the commercial launch of its Gut Function Test (GFT), which provides comprehensive gut microbiome profiling using only a few drops of blood. This innovation marks a significant advancement in the field, as gut microbiome analysis has traditionally required stool samples. With MicrobioTx GFT, users can now gain insights into their gut health through a simple finger-prick, eliminating the need for stool collection. The test has been clinically validated through trials at leading Indian research institutions and has recently received approval from the Indian regulatory authorities. The commercial rollout is supported by a grant from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) through the Institute of Life Science, Bhubaneshwar.

This comprehensive approach enables users not only to understand their gut health but also to take targeted, personalized steps to improve it.

Dr. Palok Aich, a leading microbiome researcher and Professor and Dean of R&D at NISER, highlighted the significance of this innovation, stating, “The Gut Function Test simplifies access to critical gut health information and has the potential to drive a new era in wellness. India requires innovative, India-specific solutions to revolutionize healthcare, and the microbiome is at the forefront of the preventive health wave.”

As per the press release, co-founder of MicrobioTx, Akanksha Gupta, added, “Our development has been rooted in a data-driven approach, incorporating an AI-based model to profile the gut microbiome. Although stool-based testing for gut profiling has been available for years, it has only appealed to a niche group of enthusiasts due to the inconvenience of sample collection, long processing times, and high costs. The introduction of our GFT aims to address and overcome these barriers.”
