The 5th Annual UAE International Nuclear Medicine Conference concluded on Sunday at the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences. Held in collaboration with the Arab Society for Nuclear Medicine, the event brought together global medical experts to spotlight the growing role of nuclear medicine in diagnosing and treating cancer and chronic diseases.
Advancing Cancer Treatment Through Nuclear Medicine
Dr. Batoul Al Balooshi, Assistant Professor of Nuclear Medicine and President of the Arab Society for Nuclear Medicine, showcased a major breakthrough in cancer care. She revealed that 15 patients—both from within the UAE and abroad—suffering from prostate and endocrine tumors resistant to conventional chemotherapy or radiation had achieved complete tumor control using advanced nuclear medicine therapies.
“This success underscores the power of nuclear medicine as a cornerstone of personalised modern healthcare,” she stated. “It not only improves patient recovery but also significantly enhances quality of life.”
Strengthening UAE’s Nuclear Medicine Infrastructure
Dr. Al Balooshi emphasized the UAE’s leadership in this field. The country now hosts 14 state-of-the-art nuclear medicine centres, each equipped with cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. These facilities enable precise imaging and targeted treatment strategies that protect healthy tissue while boosting the effectiveness of care.
