Actimed and Mankind Pharma Sign Licensing Agreement for Cachexia Therapies

Actimed Therapeutics Ltd (“Actimed”), a UK-based clinical-stage specialty pharmaceutical company focused on cancer cachexia and muscle-wasting disorders, has entered into a strategic licensing agreement with Mankind Pharma Limited (“Mankind”). As part of the deal, Mankind—one of India’s leading innovative pharmaceutical companies and an existing Actimed shareholder—gains exclusive rights to develop and commercialise Actimed’s cachexia-related products across India and South Asian territories.

Exclusive Rights Across the Indian Subcontinent

Under the agreement, Mankind secures exclusive product rights in India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar. The license covers Actimed’s patents, proprietary know-how, and future related patents. It allows Mankind to develop, manufacture, and market the products under its own trademarks. The agreement applies specifically to the treatment and prevention of cachexia. Mankind will assume full responsibility for development, manufacturing, and sales and marketing.

Products Covered Under the Licensing Deal

As per the press release, the licensed products include those derived from Actimed’s intellectual property, notably the development programme for S-pindolol benzoate (ACM-001.1). Actimed plans to advance ACM-001.1 into Phase 2b/3 clinical development for cancer cachexia. Following successful clinical outcomes and regulatory approvals, Mankind will commercialise the therapy throughout the licensed South Asian markets. Commercial terms of the agreement remain confidential.

Strengthening a Longstanding Partnership

Atish Majumdar, Senior President (Sales & Marketing) at Mankind Pharma and Non-Executive Director at Actimed, stated that Mankind has long supported Actimed. He added that this strategic agreement further strengthens their partnership. Our shared commitment to advancing innovative therapies for cachexia drives this collaboration. We believe strongly in Actimed’s vision and expertise, and we are proud to work together on this critical mission.”

Advancing Treatment Options for Cachexia Patients

Actimed CEO Robin Bhattacherjee remarked, “We are delighted to enter this agreement with Mankind. Cachexia remains a severely debilitating condition with no globally approved treatments. By combining Actimed’s product pipeline with Mankind’s robust development and commercial capabilities, we are taking an essential step toward delivering impactful therapies to cachexia patients worldwide.”

Through this partnership, both companies aim to accelerate access to innovative treatment options. The condition still poses significant unmet medical needs across global healthcare systems.
