The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur recently conducted a masterclass on Technology Interventions in Healthcare in collaboration with the DRISHTI CPS Foundation, an initiative by IIT Indore. The event aimed to explore how emerging technologies—especially artificial intelligence (AI)—can enhance healthcare delivery and clinical outcomes.

Foundation Team Assesses Clinical Workflows

A team from the DRISHTI Foundation visited key clinical departments at AIIMS Raipur, including Radiology, laboratories, and the Trauma and Emergency Department. Their visit offered a first-hand understanding of existing clinical workflows and operational challenges. This on-ground insight will play a vital role in designing AI-based tools tailored to hospital needs. A discussion also took place on implementing the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) within AIIMS Raipur’s infrastructure.

Charak Masterclass: A Day of Knowledge Exchange

As reported by TOI, the highlight of the collaboration was the Charak Masterclass, a full-day event that brought together innovators, clinicians, researchers, and faculty for rich discussions and knowledge sharing. Lieutenant General Ashok Jindal (Retired), Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Raipur, stated that the collaboration would benefit students, residents, and faculty while paving the way for a Digital Health Innovation Centre at AIIMS Raipur.

Leadership Support for Digital Healthcare Research

Professor (Dr) Abhiruchi Galhotra, Dean (Research), emphasized that the partnership would motivate faculty and residents to engage in cutting-edge research at the intersection of healthcare and digital technology. This would, in turn, improve service quality and healthcare efficiency.

Expert Sessions and Live Demonstrations

The masterclass featured expert talks on trending topics such as:

  • The evolution of healthcare using data and AI

  • Applications of neural networks in clinical settings

  • Reducing ventilator alarm fatigue in ICUs through machine learning

Additionally, live demonstrations showcased:

  • 3D modelling from radiology images

  • Digital prescriptions using voice-to-text and OCR tools

  • Clinical decision support systems

  • Use of augmented and virtual reality in healthcare environments

AIIMS Faculty Present Projects and Seek Support

Faculty members from various departments presented their AI-based projects, seeking technical and financial assistance from IIT Indore. Scientists from the DRISHTI Foundation reviewed these proposals and expressed interest in supporting their development.

Roadmap for Future Collaborations

The event concluded with the SRIJAN Centre for Innovation and Incubation unveiling a roadmap for future collaborative efforts. These include pilot projects, technology validation, and proposals for long-term partnerships. Notably, AIIMS Raipur has submitted a proposal for establishing a ‘Silicon Hub’ under the Department of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the DRISHTI Foundation.

Widespread Faculty Participation

Key academic leaders—including Professor (Dr) Eli Mohapatra (Dean Academics), Dr. Krashnadutt Chavali (Dean Student Welfare), and Professor (Dr) Ekta Khandelwal (Associate Dean Research)—joined other faculty and researchers in active participation, underscoring AIIMS Raipur’s strong commitment to digital transformation in healthcare.
