Doctors at KIMS Saveera Hospital, Anantapur, successfully treated a farmer suffering from a brain aneurysm without performing open brain surgery. Instead, they used an advanced endovascular coiling procedure, offering the patient a faster and less invasive treatment option.
Consultant Neurologist Dr. Karthik Reddy and Interventional Radiologist Dr. Pritviraj treated Rameshwar Reddy from Tadipatri, who was admitted with severe headache, vomiting, and dizziness. A CT scan and CT angiogram confirmed the presence of a brain aneurysm, a balloon-like swelling in a blood vessel.
Advanced Coiling Technique Replaces Open Surgery
Rather than opting for conventional brain surgery, the medical team performed endovascular coiling. During the procedure, doctors inserted a thin catheter through a small puncture in the groin and guided it to the aneurysm. They then placed platinum micro-coils inside the swollen blood vessel to block blood flow, significantly reducing the risk of rupture.
According to the doctors, the minimally invasive procedure causes less pain, avoids surgical scars, and enables quicker recovery. As per the press release, the patient recovered well after the procedure and was discharged in stable condition.
Doctors Stress Blood Pressure Control
The doctors noted that the patient had a history of hypertension but had not been taking medication regularly. They cautioned that uncontrolled high blood pressure can weaken blood vessel walls, increasing the risk of aneurysm formation and potentially life-threatening brain haemorrhage if the aneurysm ruptures.
They advised people to seek immediate medical attention if they experience sudden severe headache, vomiting, loss of consciousness, slurred speech, or weakness in the limbs.
