Experts Highlight Technology’s Role in Advancing Cancer Care

Advanced technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and medical physics are increasingly shaping cancer care, experts said at a two-day conference organised by the Department of Radiation Oncology, KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad.

Focus on Precision and Patient Safety

The annual conference of the Association of Medical Physicists of India (AMPI) – Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chapter, held on September 26 and 27, brought together medical physicists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and healthcare technology experts.

Professor M. Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University, attended as the Chief Guest and highlighted the role of AI, advanced physics, and digital healthcare in improving access to precision-driven medical services.

Technology Driving Cancer Treatment

As per the press release, Dr. B. Bhaskar Rao, CMD, KIMS Group of Hospitals, highlighted the hospital’s advanced infrastructure and specialist teams for cancer care. He also urged medical physicists to keep pace with emerging technologies, including generative AI, to improve precision and efficiency in diagnostic imaging and radiation oncology.

Meanwhile, experts discussed developments in radiation dosimetry, nuclear medicine, radiation safety, and advanced cancer treatment techniques, with particular focus on accurate radiation dose delivery and patient safety.

Strengthening Research and Training

Prof. M. Kumar Molugaram, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University, noted that KIMS Hospitals’ Department of Radiation Oncology is a recognised research centre of the university. He also highlighted the MoU between Osmania University and KIMS for a Post-M.Sc. Diploma in Medical Physics.

The conference also explored opportunities for future training and research to strengthen the skills of medical physicists. Dr. Sambit Sahu, Medical Director, KIMS Hospitals, along with senior medical physicists and radiation oncology specialists, attended the programme.
