In a major achievement for rural healthcare in India, the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR) has received Entry-Level Accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH).

This prestigious recognition confirms that the institute meets key national standards in patient safety, quality healthcare delivery, and hospital management systems. Moreover, the accreditation marks a significant milestone for one of India’s first fully free rural medical colleges and hospitals.

Recognition for Quality and Patient Safety

Speaking about the achievement, Dr. Padmashree, Medical Superintendent of SMSIMSR, highlighted the rarity of such recognition in the healthcare sector.

“Out of nearly 80,000 to 90,000 hospitals in the country, only about 1.4% have achieved full accreditation, while nearly 3% hold Entry-Level accreditation. Among hospitals that provide completely free medical services, only a handful have received such recognition,” she said.

As per the press release, she further noted that the institution continues to follow all NABH standards under the guidance of Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai.

“Entry-Level accreditation is only the beginning. We are confident that SMSIMSR will soon achieve full NABH accreditation,” she added.

Advancing the Vision of Free, World-Class Healthcare

Dr. Padmashree also emphasized the institute’s long-term humanitarian mission.

“Under the leadership of Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, our mission is to provide completely free, world-class healthcare services to poor and underserved communities as part of the ‘One World One Family’ initiative,” she stated.

Located in rural Karnataka, SMSIMSR has transformed healthcare access by delivering high-quality medical services free of cost to underserved populations. With this accreditation, the institution now joins a select group of hospitals committed to safe, structured, and standardized patient care.

Setting an Example for Rural Hospitals

Importantly, the achievement demonstrates that rural healthcare institutions can successfully implement internationally aligned quality standards despite operational challenges.

Many hospitals, especially in rural regions, struggle to establish formal quality frameworks. However, SMSIMSR has shown that compassionate care and world-class healthcare standards can coexist effectively.

What the NABH Accreditation Confirms

The Entry-Level NABH Accreditation validates that SMSIMSR has implemented several critical healthcare systems, including:

  • Robust patient safety protocols
  • Effective infection prevention and control measures
  • Standardized clinical and administrative procedures
  • Ethical and transparent patient care practices
  • Structured documentation and continuous monitoring systems

As a result, patients receive safe, accountable, and consistent healthcare services aligned with national benchmarks.

Enhancing the Quality of Medical Education

As a teaching institution, SMSIMSR also strengthens medical education through this accreditation. Students now train in an environment that prioritizes evidence-based medicine, patient-centric care, and standardized operating procedures.

Consequently, future healthcare professionals gain practical exposure to high-quality clinical systems and ethical healthcare delivery.

Moving Towards Full NABH Accreditation

While Entry-Level Accreditation serves as an important milestone, SMSIMSR aims to achieve full NABH accreditation in the near future. The institute plans to further enhance its systems, strengthen quality initiatives, and expand patient-centered healthcare services in the coming years.
