Kamala Nehru Memorial Hospital, in collaboration with Lenek Technologies Private Limited, has developed a portable, AI-enabled screening device for the early detection of lung cancer. Lenek Technologies operates as a start-up initiative of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-K).
The innovation aims to strengthen diagnostic capabilities and significantly improve access to cancer screening, especially in underserved and resource-limited regions.
Trial Implementation and Clinical Validation
Notably, doctors at Kamala Nehru Hospital have already conducted trial runs of the device. As a prominent member of the National Cancer Grid, the hospital continues to contribute actively to advancing cancer care standards across the country. Through these trials, clinicians evaluated the device’s practical utility and its potential integration into routine screening workflows.
Recognition at International AI Impact Summit
Furthermore, the team recently showcased the device at the International AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi. The project received a certificate of achievement under the India AI–NCG CATCH Grant Challenge 2026. According to a hospital official, this recognition highlights the device’s transformative potential within India’s healthcare ecosystem and reinforces its scalability prospects.
Expanding Access to Early Detection
Importantly, the portable nature of the device makes it particularly suitable for rural and remote regions, where access to advanced diagnostic infrastructure remains limited. By enabling early detection closer to communities, the technology could reduce delays in diagnosis and improve treatment outcomes.
Key Contributors to the Innovation
As reported by TOI, the project leadership includes Madhu Chandra, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, and Deepu Philip, Professor-in-Charge of Innovation and Incubation at IIT Kanpur.
The Lenek Technologies team comprises Sidesh Dhakar, Himani Dhariwal, Siddharth Suhane, and Chirag Agrawal, who collectively contributed to the development and implementation of the AI-powered screening solution.
