Doctors at KIMS Saveera Hospital have successfully performed a cochlear implant surgery on a 57-year-old woman who had been struggling with severe hearing loss for nearly a year, according to ENT surgeon Dr. R. Raghavendra Reddy.
Patient Struggles with Progressive Hearing Loss
The patient, a resident of Anantapur, visited the hospital with significant hearing impairment. Although she had previously used hearing aids, she experienced no improvement. As a result, her condition began to interfere with her professional responsibilities and daily communication.
Comprehensive Evaluation Leads to Surgical Decision
After conducting a detailed evaluation, the medical team identified a cochlear implant as the most suitable solution to restore her hearing. Consequently, the team scheduled the procedure and successfully performed the surgery on March 10. The patient is now recovering well.
Experts Highlight Effectiveness in Adults
As per the press release, Dr. Raghavendra Reddy emphasized that the patient’s hearing loss was age-related. Moreover, he highlighted that cochlear implants are not limited to children and can be effectively performed in adults, regardless of age.
Milestone Achievement for Rayalaseema Region
Notably, this procedure marks the first time a cochlear implant has been performed on a patient in this age group in the Rayalaseema region. Therefore, the surgery represents a significant milestone in advancing hearing care services in the area.
