Maharashtra to Link Health Officers’ Postings to Performance

Performance-Based Evaluation Introduced

The Maharashtra Public Health Department has introduced a performance-based evaluation system for senior medical and administrative officers. The department will assess officers based on their work over the previous three years before considering them for key district-level postings.

100-Point Assessment

The new system will cover civil surgeons, medical superintendents, District Health Officers and other senior health officials. Officials will receive scores out of 100 based on factors such as patient grievance redressal, leadership, financial management, availability of medicines, cleanliness, staff management, emergency response and implementation of health programmes.

According to ETHealthworld, officers scoring above 70 will fall into the A category and receive priority for quality-based postings. Those scoring 50–70 will fall into the B category, while lower-performing officers may receive additional training and performance improvement plans.

Performance Will Not Be the Only Factor

However, the department will not use performance scores as the sole basis for postings. It will also consider eligibility, seniority, experience, availability of posts, reservation rules and other administrative requirements.

The department plans to conduct these assessments annually. It may also order premature transfers when an officer’s performance remains poor.
