The Max India Foundation (MIF) and the Max Institute of Healthcare Management (MIHM) at the Indian School of Business (ISB) have launched the SCALE (Senior Care Advancement Through Learning and Evidence) Initiative. Supported by a multi-year CSR grant from MIF, the initiative will generate research and evidence to strengthen senior care models and enable informed decision-making for India’s growing senior population.
Bridging Research and Industry
India is witnessing rising demand for senior care that is accessible, appropriate and sustainable. As the sector expands across senior living, healthcare, AgeTech, financing and insurance, organisations are generating valuable insights through practice and innovation. However, these learnings often remain fragmented. SCALE aims to bridge this gap by connecting research with industry experience and translating evidence into insights for businesses, policymakers and other stakeholders.
The initiative will examine areas including consumer behaviour, workforce participation, social inclusion, care delivery and operating models, financing and technology adoption. Antara Senior Care will serve as the founding industry partner, bringing its experience and engagement with the senior care sector to the initiative.
Collaboration to Drive Sectoral Insights
The partners formalised the initiative through an MoU exchanged between Tara Singh Vachani, Managing Trustee, Max India Foundation and Executive Chairperson, Antara Senior Care, and ISB Dean Madan Pillutla. The exchange took place in the presence of senior representatives from Max India, Antara Senior Care and ISB.
Launched at ISB’s Hyderabad campus through a stakeholder roundtable, SCALE will bring together researchers, industry stakeholders and clinicians to examine the evolving needs of seniors. As per the press release, the initiative will connect real-world challenges with research to inform service design, operating models, technology adoption, workforce planning, investment and innovation across the sector.
Building a Stronger Evidence Base
Tara Singh Vachani said the initiative will help deepen the understanding of seniors’ diverse needs and support the development of more effective care models and stronger support systems.
Professor Sarang Deo, Executive Director, Max Institute of Healthcare Management, ISB, said SCALE will examine how businesses, healthcare organisations and public institutions can respond to the changing needs of India’s senior population through evidence-based approaches across financing, technology, workforce participation, consumer behaviour and social inclusion.
Long-Term Research and Industry Platform
SCALE at MIHM will serve as a sustained platform for research collaborations, data partnerships, pilots, evaluations and knowledge exchange. Over time, it aims to build an industry-level evidence base that can help organisations respond to changing consumer needs, strengthen workforce strategies, make informed business and investment decisions, and scale effective approaches.
The initiative will combine Antara Senior Care’s experience across senior living, care homes, wellness and chronic disease management with MIHM’s healthcare research expertise and ISB’s broader commitment to addressing critical societal challenges.
