In a significant step toward improving healthcare quality, the Odisha government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jhpiego, an organisation affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. This collaboration aims to enhance healthcare delivery in critical areas such as nursing services, maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases, nutrition, and emergency care.

Under this agreement, Jhpiego will provide technical support in healthcare planning and policy development. Additionally, it will facilitate experience sharing, implement best practices, and strengthen quality standards. The partnership will also focus on medical education, trainer development, and digital learning initiatives, thereby building long-term institutional capacity.

Government Emphasises Sustainable and Inclusive Growth
Speaking on the occasion, Mukesh Mahaling highlighted the importance of the collaboration. He stated that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Odisha’s healthcare system through inclusive and sustainable interventions.

Furthermore, he noted that while Odisha has made considerable progress in improving health indicators over the years, new challenges continue to emerge. Therefore, innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning remain essential. He also emphasised that this MoU is unique, as it focuses on knowledge exchange rather than financial transactions.

Focus on Key Healthcare Priorities
Through this collaboration, the state aims to enhance its capabilities in critical sectors, including human resources for health, maternal and child care, management of non-communicable diseases, nutrition, and emergency preparedness. Consequently, the initiative is expected to improve both service delivery and health outcomes across the state.

MoU with AIIMS Bhubaneswar to Boost Regional Healthcare
In addition, the Odisha health department signed another MoU with AIIMS Bhubaneswar to expand access to advanced healthcare services in Rairangpur, located in Mayurbhanj district.

As part of this agreement, AIIMS Bhubaneswar will support the development of a new 100-bed hospital at the Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH). This initiative will benefit residents not only in Rairangpur but also in neighbouring districts such as Keonjhar and other parts of Mayurbhanj.

Expanded Services and Outreach Initiatives
Moreover, the collaboration will introduce a range of specialised healthcare services based on patient needs. These include outpatient department (OPD) services across various specialties, along with regular medical camps held monthly or bi-monthly.
