OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, has announced the launch of ChatGPT Health, a dedicated space within ChatGPT designed specifically for health and wellness conversations. This new offering reflects the growing demand for reliable digital health support, as more than 230 million people worldwide already ask health-related questions on ChatGPT every week.
Designed for Secure and Relevant Health Conversations
ChatGPT Health builds on ChatGPT’s existing privacy, security, and data protection framework. In addition, OpenAI has introduced layered safeguards tailored for sensitive health information, including purpose-built encryption and data isolation. As a result, health-related conversations remain protected and compartmentalised from other interactions.
Connecting Medical Records and Wellness Apps
To make health discussions more relevant and personalised, ChatGPT Health allows users to securely connect medical records and popular wellness apps such as Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and Function. Consequently, users can ask the chatbot to explain lab reports, summarise bloodwork ahead of a doctor’s appointment, or receive diet and workout guidance based on their connected health data.
A Tool to Support—Not Replace—Medical Care
As reported by TOI, OpenAI emphasised that ChatGPT Health is designed to complement, not replace, professional medical care. By offering clearer insights and contextual information, the tool aims to help users make more informed health decisions while encouraging appropriate engagement with healthcare professionals.
Privacy and Security at the Core
OpenAI highlighted that ChatGPT Health operates as a separate, encrypted space with enhanced privacy protections for sensitive data. Importantly, conversations within ChatGPT Health are not used to train OpenAI’s foundation models. Moreover, when users initiate a health-related conversation in standard ChatGPT, the platform will suggest moving the discussion into ChatGPT Health to ensure these additional protections.
Medical Record Integration Through Trusted Partners
Currently, medical record integrations are available in the United States through a partnership with b.well. This collaboration enables users to securely connect their health information from trusted healthcare providers, further enhancing the accuracy and usefulness of health-related interactions.
Built With Global Clinical Expertise
OpenAI developed ChatGPT Health in collaboration with more than 260 physicians across 60 countries and multiple medical specialties. Over a two-year period, these clinicians reviewed and provided feedback on model outputs more than 600,000 times. This extensive input helped shape how ChatGPT Health communicates, determines when to escalate concerns to professional care, and prioritises user safety.
How to Get Started With ChatGPT Health
Users can begin by signing up for the waitlist to request access to ChatGPT Health. Once approved, they can select the ‘Health’ option from the sidebar menu in ChatGPT. From there, users can upload medical records directly or connect health and wellness apps through the Tools (+) option or the “Apps” section in Settings, bringing all relevant health information into one secure space.
