Redcliffe Labs Launches AI-Powered Face Scan for Preventive Health Screening

Redcliffe Labs has launched Face Scan, an AI-powered, contactless wellness screening tool that uses smartphone cameras to deliver instant health insights in just 30 seconds. The company positions the technology as an early awareness checkpoint designed to support preventive healthcare across India.

Addressing India’s Growing Chronic Disease Burden

India continues to face a significant burden of chronic and lifestyle-related diseases. Currently, more than 500 million people live with—or remain at risk of—conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders.

Consequently, public health experts have consistently highlighted the importance of early screening and timely behavioural intervention in preventing or managing many of these conditions. Redcliffe’s latest AI-driven initiative aligns closely with this shift toward prevention-first healthcare models.

Leadership Perspective on Preventive Access

Commenting on the launch, Aditya Kandoi, CEO of Redcliffe, emphasised the broader vision behind the technology. “Everybody has the right to an easy way to keep track of their well-being,” he said. “This is more than technology—it is 30 seconds of peace of mind. By making preventive analytics accessible anytime and anywhere, we empower people to take early action and live healthier lives.”

How Face Scan Technology Works

As reported by digitalhealthnews, Face Scan combines artificial intelligence with remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) and remote ballistocardiography (rBCG) to analyse physiological signals captured through a short facial video.

Specifically, the system detects subtle colour changes in the skin caused by blood flow. Using this data, the AI estimates key wellness parameters such as heart rate, heart rate variability, breathing rate, and blood pressure, all without requiring physical contact.

Improved Accuracy Across Conditions and Skin Tones

In addition, the rBCG component analyses minute head movements to enhance measurement accuracy. This approach improves performance in low-light environments and across diverse skin tones, including higher melanin concentrations, thereby supporting broader accessibility and reliability.

Real-Time Wellness Insights on Any Device

Using any camera-enabled device, Face Scan delivers real-time wellness indicators related to heart health, blood pressure trends, and stress levels. As a result, users can gain rapid insights into their physiological state without specialised hardware or clinical settings.

Not a Diagnostic Tool, but an Early-Warning System

Importantly, Redcliffe clarified that Face Scan does not function as a medical device and does not provide clinical diagnoses. Instead, the company positions the tool as an intelligent early-warning mechanism that encourages users to seek further medical evaluation if potential concerns arise.

Supporting Long-Term Health Awareness

With repeated use, the AI system enables users to track trends and variations in wellness indicators over time. This longitudinal insight supports more informed health decisions and encourages individuals to adopt preventive behaviours before conditions advance.

Ultimately, through Face Scan, Redcliffe Labs aims to bridge the gap between everyday awareness and formal healthcare, reinforcing the role of technology in building a more proactive and prevention-oriented health ecosystem.
