Royal Sandur Group Enters Medical Devices and Consumables Manufacturing

Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited (SMIORE), the flagship company of the Royal Sandur Group, has entered the medical devices and consumables sector as part of its diversification strategy. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Royal Sandur MedTech Private Limited, the group plans to establish a manufacturing unit at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam. The move marks a strategic expansion beyond the group’s core mining and metals businesses and reflects its interest in India’s growing medical technology manufacturing sector.

Royal Sandur MedTech Secures Land at AMTZ

Royal Sandur MedTech Private Limited has secured land on a long-term lease at AMTZ, a medical technology park that provides shared manufacturing infrastructure and scientific facilities. The subsidiary recently executed a lease deed with Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone Limited, a Government of Andhra Pradesh undertaking that owns and operates the facility. The agreement will enable the company to establish its manufacturing unit at the medical technology park. In addition, Royal Sandur MedTech has leased office space at the World Trade Center AMTZ to support project development and related activities.

Diversification Beyond Mining and Metals

The entry into medical devices and consumables represents a new growth avenue for SMIORE. The company aims to build capabilities in domestic medical technology manufacturing while leveraging the infrastructure available at AMTZ. Bahirji A. Ghorpade, Managing Director of SMIORE, said the group’s diversification strategy focuses on developing new growth opportunities alongside its established mining and metals businesses. He noted that the medical devices and consumables sector offers significant opportunities to expand domestic manufacturing. Moreover, AMTZ’s shared manufacturing and scientific facilities provide new entrants with a platform to develop capabilities while managing capital requirements.

“Securing this land is the first concrete step in this journey, and we intend to pursue it with the same discipline that has defined our enterprise over seven decades,” Ghorpade said. As reported by thehindubusinessline.com, with the land lease secured and office space established, Royal Sandur MedTech has taken its first concrete steps towards entering medical technology manufacturing. The initiative could broaden the group’s business portfolio while supporting the development of India’s domestic medical devices and consumables industry.
