In a significant step toward democratizing access to advanced surgical technologies, Dr. Sudhir Prem Srivastava, Founding Chairman of the SSI Group of Companies, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to donate the SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System to the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR) in Chikkaballapur, Karnataka. This system is India’s first and only indigenously developed robotic surgery platform. The MoU signing ceremony took place at the SS Innovations International Headquarters in Gurugram and was graced by the presence of Shri Sadguru Madhusudan Sai.
Establishing a Premier Robotic Cardiac Surgery Centre
Through this landmark initiative, SMSIMSR will establish a world-class Robotic Cardiac Surgery Centre. Moreover, the institute aims to become South India’s leading training hub for robotic surgeries across multiple specialties, including adult and pediatric cardiac surgery, thoracic, general surgery, urology, gynecology, and head and neck surgery.
A Shared Vision for Inclusive, High-Quality Care
SMSIMSR, known for its commitment to selfless service and clinical excellence, aligns perfectly with this vision. The institution offers world-class healthcare to all patients, regardless of their financial background. This partnership strengthens equitable access to advanced surgical care. It also fosters knowledge exchange, hands-on clinical training, and joint research to expand the reach of robotic surgery in India.
Dr. Srivastava’s Commitment to Long-Term Capacity Building
As part of the collaboration, Dr. Srivastava has pledged to support the first 100 robotic surgeries at SMSIMSR. He will also cover the full maintenance costs of the SSI Mantra System for five years. Additionally, he will lead advanced training programs for multi-specialty surgical teams, ensuring both immediate and long-term impact.
Voices from the Collaboration
Speaking at the MoU signing, Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of SS Innovations International Inc., stated,
“My collaboration with SMSIMSR exemplifies the spirit of service and innovation. By combining cutting-edge, indigenously developed technology with a mission rooted in inclusive and accessible healthcare, we are taking a meaningful step toward transforming surgical care in India. The ultimate goal is not just to advance robotic surgery, but to ensure its life-saving benefits reach underserved and rural communities.”
Shri Sadguru Madhusudan Sai added,
“We are honored to welcome Dr. Sudhir Srivastava as an Honorary Professor at SMSIMSR. His global expertise and visionary leadership will be invaluable in shaping the future of robotic surgery in India. This partnership marks a new chapter in our journey to make quality healthcare a right, not a privilege. By merging innovation with compassion, we are bridging the gap between technology and inclusion.”
A Model of Philanthropy-Driven Innovation
As per the press release, this collaboration stands as a powerful example of how private sector innovation can serve public good. Rooted in philanthropic principles, the initiative sets a precedent for using sustainable, technology-led solutions to bridge the healthcare divide. Together, Dr. Srivastava and SMSIMSR are transforming the landscape of Indian healthcare—one robotic surgery at a time.
