A urologist from Sikkim, Dr Tsering (Doma) Bhutia, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday after suffering a medical emergency while attending the international urology conference, USICON-2026, in Indore.
Collapse During Conference Presentation
As reported by TOI, Dr Bhutia collapsed on Saturday afternoon while delivering a presentation during a technical session at the conference. Immediately after the incident, fellow doctors and delegates at the venue rushed to assist her and administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Emergency Hospitalisation and Critical Care
Following initial stabilisation, medical teams rushed Dr Bhutia to Life Care Hospital. Later, doctors referred her to Apollo Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite intensive medical intervention, her condition remained critical.
Brain Aneurysm Identified as Underlying Cause
Subsequent investigations revealed that Dr Bhutia had a pre-existing brain aneurysm. Medical experts explained that a brain aneurysm occurs when a weak or thin section of a blood vessel in the brain bulges and fills with blood.
In her case, the weakened vessel ruptured suddenly, causing severe internal bleeding, also known as haemorrhage. As a result, she lost consciousness immediately and entered a critical state. Doctors placed her on ventilator support to manage her condition.
Transfer Plans and Final Outcome
As her condition failed to improve, doctors planned to airlift Dr Bhutia to Medanta Hospital in Mumbai on Monday. However, her family later decided to shift her to Medanta Hospital in Indore.
Despite continued critical care, Dr Bhutia succumbed to her medical condition in the early hours of Wednesday.
Hospital Confirms Death, Body Sent Home
Confirming the development, Medanta Hospital Medical Director Dr Sanjay Geed said, “Dr Bhutia succumbed to her medical conditions on Wednesday. Her body is being sent to her hometown.”
