Ajinomoto CELLiST Korea, a subsidiary of the Ajinomoto Group specializing in cell culture media development and manufacturing, has launched CELLiST™ AAV Production Supplement 1, a newly developed medium supplement designed to significantly enhance viral vector productivity in gene therapy manufacturing.

Breakthrough Developed Through Global Collaboration

The supplement emerged from a strategic collaboration between Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) and its U.S.-based consolidated subsidiary Forge Biologics, a leading CDMO focused on adeno-associated virus (AAV) development and manufacturing. Demonstration studies confirmed that CELLiST™ AAV Production Supplement 1 increases viral vector productivity by 1.3 to 2 times compared to conventional culture methods. These promising findings were presented at the Japan Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (JSGCT) in July 2025.

Addressing Key Challenges in Gene Therapy Manufacturing

As per the press release, the advancement addresses a key challenge in the rapidly growing gene therapy field. It aims to boost production efficiency while controlling manufacturing costs. With the global gene therapy market projected to grow from USD 7 billion in 2022 to USD 46 billion by 2030, innovative solutions like CELLiST™ AAV Production Supplement 1 are critical to support the rising demand for therapies targeting both common and rare diseases.
