Health Minister K. Muraleedharan has pledged the state government’s full support for initiatives to reduce Kerala’s rising cancer burden and advance research in diagnosis and treatment.
The Minister was speaking after virtually inaugurating the Aster Quality Care Cancer Conclave (AQCCON) 2026, organised by the Aster International Institute of Oncology in Kochi.
Focus on Early Detection and Advanced Care
The Minister stressed the importance of prevention and early detection, noting that cancer is increasingly being diagnosed among young and otherwise healthy people. He said the Health Department would review the conclave’s recommendations and take necessary follow-up action.
During the inaugural session, actress Divya Pillai and AQCCON 2026 Chairperson Dr. Jem Kalathil launched Sakhi 5.0, an Aster programme supporting cancer survivors and caregivers through educational sessions, online classes and practical assistance. The event also featured the soft launch of the Onco Infusion Day Care area.
Experts Highlight Precision Oncology
As per the press release, AQCCON 2026 brings together more than 100 oncology experts for over 60 academic sessions, covering surgical, medical, radiation and nuclear oncology. The programme includes keynote lectures, tumour boards, expert panels, case-based debates and clinical research presentations.
“Cancer is increasingly treatable and curable when detected early or managed with modern advances like immunotherapy and precision oncology,” said Prof. Dr. Somashekhar S. P., Global Director – Aster International Institute of Oncology – GCC & India.
Dr. Arun R. Warrier, Organising Secretary of AQCCON, highlighted the need for multidisciplinary comprehensive cancer care, with Precision Oncology helping optimise treatment outcomes and quality of life. The conclave also marks the coming together of ASTER, CARE Hospitals, KIMSHEALTH and EVERCARE as one integrated healthcare organisation.
